Well done to everyone who bought a nose or came in with crazy hair or face paint. Year 6 organised the selling of Red Noses. Altogether we raised over £320 for Comic Relief 2015.
Writing thank-yous for the Christmas Fair raffle prizes.
We are finding out about Europe and have been researching foods from different countries. Today we made tagliatelle and tortelli pasta.
Recent sporting action has included a cross-country competition for years 4, 5 & 6, and a Purbeck tag rugby competition for years 5 & 6. St Mary’s are very proud of their teams: year 6 were first overall in cross-country and we had individual success with first boy and second girl. We were overall winners of the tag rugby and the rugby team now progresses to the Dorset School Games.
Year 3 enjoyed a very interesting visit to the Tutankhamun Exhibition in Dorchester. It was very exciting to be right up close to the artefacts from the Pharaoh’s tomb and to see what the antechamber and burial chamber were really like. We took lots of notes and made drawings of things that interested us.
Year 5 spent the morning with Gilbert from Dragon of The South. They learned about the traditional Lion Dance and why it is important in Chinese culture. The pupils were able to dance in one of the intricate lion costumes as well as play the drums, cymbals and a gong.
After some practice time they performed the music and dance to the whole school. One of the children said it was the best morning he has ever had at the school!
School Councillors from Year 5 and 6 were invited to attend Swanage Town Council’s Beach Management meeting. They took the opportunity to ask questions about rubbish bins and recycling on the beach and the council responded and will be taking some of their queries forward to their next discussion. They will now be able to report back to the rest of the School Council and Green Team at the next meeting.
