Last Wednesday Year 4 took part in the Swanage Primary Swimming Gala at the Swanage Bay View Pool. There were teams from the four primary schools competing. The children took it in turns to swim back stroke, breast stroke and free-style. There were also two relay races. Oliver and Thomas from year 3 helped make up the numbers to our year 4 team which consisted of;
Paris, Helena, Heidi, Maddie, Thomas and Sebastian.
The children worked very hard and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. Overall we came 2nd place! Well done St. Mary’s!
Year 4 swimming team.
We have been very busy in Year 1! We’ve had a visit from a dentist, a trip to Monkey World, we’ve been working on the outside area of our classroom and taking part in Art Week.
All classes (except year 1 who were on a trip) enjoyed skipping workshops with Dan the Skipping Man, culminating with a show in the hall at the end of the day. There is lots of skipping going on at playtime and lunchtime now!
Year 5 visited the Tank Museum as part of our WW2 project. In the morning we learnt about jobs that were done at home during the war and how life changed for everyone. We also visited the 1940s house to experience some of the differences. In the afternoon we explored the museum and enjoyed learning a little about other wars and the different tanks.
Year 5 visited the Safewise centre in Weymouth. We learnt about keeping ourselves, our families and our homes safe from fire. The special effects were spectacular! We also learnt about keeping ourselves healthy in the Healthwise shop. We earned our Bronze award and will be working, in class, towards our Silver!
We shared mass with the parish to celebrate Mothering Sunday.
Year 5 helped year 2 evaluate the non fiction books about penguins they had written. They were very interesting!
