Dorset One World Festival – Saturday 1st August 2015 – 11-6pm – FREE – Borough Gardens, Dorchester
Free family friendly community festival celebrating diversity of cultures in Dorset through world music, dance, food and activities. The kids and youth area has been expanded this year with sports and crafts activities, bouncy castle from the Action Van, Rainbow Arts and Bearcat Collective with crafts and activities.
The programme of live music, dance and cultural activities spans the globe including Ukraine, China, Africa, India, Latvia and Ukraine. Workshops include African and Polish Dance, introduction to Traditional Indian music and Chinese crafts. The headline band – Dubheart from Bournemouth who recently won the award for the best reggae band in Europe.
You can enjoy a wide selection of cuisines from the Global Food Village whilst soaking up the cultural sights and sounds in the lovely setting of the Borough Gardens, Dorchester.
A free community event that has something to appeal to all ages and cultures.
Highlights:
Nepali Arts Project Exhibition marking 200 years of friendship between Britain and Nepal. On show will be tapestry, collage, painting and photography by Design and Creative Arts Students at Bournemouth & Poole College. The Students have been granted honorary citizenship of Nepal as a token of thanks for creating an art exhibition to mark the occasion.
Chinese Celebrity Master Chef Andy Chu will host the popular ‘cook off competition’ and also demonstrate Chinese cooking techniques. Global Food Village – expanded from last year.
Tug of War Competition – Ghurkas compete with local teams
Dubheart, voted best reggae band in Europe 2013 hailing from Bournemouth will headline.
