The exciting news is that we are off to Uganda again in October. We will be staying at Nakirebe Primary School with Brother John and can’t wait to see the results of the donations made by so many people in school and the wider community over the last three years, since we were last there. This will include the new hall and infirmary building, the water filter system and the classroom block which must be fairly near completion now.
As you may know the reciprocal visits between St Mary’s School and Brother John’s School are funded by a grants from the British Council through the Reciprocal Visit Programme.
We are hoping that some fundraising activities will take place before we go and this money will be used towards buying educational resources for the school; last time we took quite a lot with us however we have been advised that it is actually cheaper and benefits the economy more if we take money and buy pens, pencils, paper etc when we are there. We will also explore the possibility of purchasing mosquito netting for the orphan dormitories. We took pre made nets last time but these aren’t always big enough as their bunk beds are 3 tiered. We will also be making some classroom resources to take with us – posters etc.
We will be talking about Uganda at 2.45pm on 7th October and you are all most welcome to come and find out a little bit more about our Ugandan partnership. We look forward to seeing you then. If you can’t make that date Mrs Meteau will be giving a talk on 4th October at Swanage URC at 4.30pm.
