St Mary’s school choir were invited to sing at the opening of Dementia Awareness Week in Swanage. We watched the ribbon cutting and then sang for the guests assembled on the lawn at Purbeck House Hotel. Afterwards we enjoyed refreshments!
We took almost 50 of our musicians and singers to this fantastic concert with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. We heard music by Stravinsky, Smetana, Holst, Dvorak and Debussy, as well as playing important percussion and vocal parts in two world premiere performances of works by the composer James Redwood. Hearing the music, watching the orchestra play, feeling the power of the sound they can make, as well as being part of a 1500-strong choir, made this a truly memorable occasion.
Well done to our athletes from years 3 & 4 for their great result at the inter-primary competition held at The Purbeck School.
Year 6 enjoyed a swim and lunch at Swanage Bay View to relax after their busy SATs week. Well done to everyone for all their hard work.
St Mary’s Summer fete is not too far away and we would like to encourage our children to help prepare for it. We are going to ask some of the children to plant us some welly planters to sell at the fete. That’s where YOU come in …
Please can you send any old wellington boots in, any colour or quality is great as we can always decorate them, if you can only find one that is also fine!
We will then upcycle them and plant them up to look so fabulous you will want to buy them back! Donations of spare compost or seeds also gratefully accepted.
Please send any wellies into the school office in the next week so that we can get started.
The Welly Team.

St Mary’s will be supporting national Walk to School Week this year and hope that parents will take the opportunity to try walking/cycling some, if not all, of the way to school rather than drive.
Full detail of how your child can take part are here.
All our classes have worked really hard producing some fantastic artwork for the Purbeck Arts Weeks. Mrs Gray had the difficult job of choosing which pieces would go to Rollington Barn for the competition. Here are the final choices all ready to be delivered.
