Year 6 were invited to send representatives to attend a Swanage Town Council Beach Management Committee meeting. They were exceptionally fortunate as the meeting took place at the town’s new RNLI Station, which is still being completed and is closed to the public. They were the first school group to have a tour!
The School Council and Green Team members discussed aspects of the town’s tourism industry with their families and peers before each writing two questions to ask at the meeting.
Their questions were:
- Why are there no bins on the beach?
- Could we have a splash park in the town?
- Why is there no green area where we can play sport without dogs mess?
- Why do boats come so close to the shoreline?
- Can you make the locks on the toilet doors easier to use?
- Could you close the seafront all year around?
They brought the committee’s answers back to share with their classmates.
Year 5 & 6 children work with those from year 4 to assess and improve their writing.
Our friend Bea from CAFOD was in school this morning. In assembly she showed us how CAFOD is working in Zambia, teaching people how to set up fish farms and funding the set-up costs. She also told us about the CAFOD Lent Fast Day, and reminded us of ways we can work, think and be during Lent.
Year 2 visited Studland on three days as part of their Castaway topic, courtesy of Dan and Jade Scott from Fore Adventure. They worked on shelter building, lighting fires, hunting razor clams and foraging for wild plants. They had a great time; more photos on class blog.
Mrs Meteau’s class have been discussing British Values and making posters of each value to display in their classroom.
Every Friday we celebrate our children’s achievements across the curriculum (and beyond!). These are our writers of the week – chosen for special achievements in writing.
