The dedicated Sports Funding Grant has allowed us to raise the profile of sport and physical activity throughout the school.
Sport Premium Funding 2016-2017
Our funding this year is £8730 and our main aim is to achieve the Youth Sports Trust Gold Mark award. We progressed to a silver award last year. This is how we are going to achieve the Gold.
Participation: Provide all students with two hours of physical education per week (within the curriculum only); and have extra curriculum provision in addition to this; engage at least 50% of students in extracurricular sporting activity every week.
The provision of support for talented young sports people
Offer talented young sports people specific support to help them to develop their sporting potential:
Every young person is provided the opportunity to ‘learn to lead’ through curriculum PE.
We will need to engage at least 15% of students in leading, managing and officiating.
Have a School Sport Organising Committee or Crew in place.
Utilise sports coaches to support school sport.
Train wider school staff to support school sport.
Breakdown of how the money will be spent
High quality sports coaching. £4500. This can guarantee that when our resident sports teacher is at a fixture, high quality PE can still take place and continue the scheme of work.
Purbeck Sports Partnership. £1650. Being involved in the partnership means we get access to over 30 sporting competitions and fixtures, all teaching staff have access to ongoing CPD and sports development. Pupils have the opportunity to become bronze ambassadors and develop their coaching skills.
Sports Equipment. £1500. Ongoing maintenance and replacement of sports equipment. Having better equipment increases the opportunities all pupils can have to learn and develop new skills. It has been proven to help and improve pupil’s ability in all areas of PE.
Transport to Fixtures. £500. To compete and provide opportunities for our pupils it is very important to have access to the mini bus and the driver. This guarantees we can attend as many fixtures as possible and provide opportunities for all the school to compete and learn at festivals and competitions.
Competitions at St Mary’s. £500. We are very keen to host our own sporting competitions here at our school as we have successfully done in the past. This will create more sporting opportunities for pupils in Swanage and also develop our links with schools further a field.
Our Sports Premium funding for the school year 2015-2016 was £8730.
