Well done and thank you to the two Year 2 children who have been litter-picking on their way to school each morning.
A group of children from key stage 1 have been attending beach schools sessions with Fore Adventure to enjoy being active outdoors, and to develop confidence and speaking and listening skills.
Year 2 represented St Mary’s in style at the Douglas Strickland Bursary 30th anniversary awards evening on Tuesday. They recited a choral poem about Christopher Columbus which they have been learning as part of their topic about Explorers.
We attended the evening to receive a donation from the bursary, with which we have purchased some class sets of books to support the teaching of reading across the school.
A huge thank you must be said to the bursary as we have received many generous donations over the years which we have used to buy a variety of resources to support the teaching of the arts across the school.
Year 2 had a brilliant day meeting and finding out about alpacas.
We were very lucky to be visited by a dancer from the Northern Ballet who gave workshops for years 2, 3 and 4. It was hard to capture the grace and beauty of the St Mary’s dancers, but Mrs White had a go…
These are the things we would like to do:
And here we are after litter-picking and weeding:
Year 2 enjoyed an exciting afternoon of cricket skills at The Purbeck School.
Hot on the heels of the BBC, year 2 visited Arne for a day of investigating and learning in support of their topic, Birds. It wasn’t even spoiled by the rain. Half the school were busy getting rained on that day… year 4 at Brenscombe, year 2 at Arne and year 1 at Corfe Castle.
Thank you to Mrs Buckle for arranging the concert for years 2 & 3, and to the wonderful secondary school musicians who performed. We loved the music and really enjoyed having a go at playing the instruments afterwards.
