School in a Bag packathon

Following our extremely successful sponsored walk last term we had a visit from School in a Bag charity so we could pack the school bags we bought – 65 of them! The Year 6 chaplains helped set up the assembly line and children from years 2 & 3 packed a bag each. Each bag has exercise books, stationery, a lunch box, spork, water bottle, toothbrush and toothpaste, flannel. Each bag is individually numbered so we should be able to track them and see the children who have received them. Our bags are going to children in Haiti.

Years 1 & 2 Sponsored Walk

Year 1 & 2 chose to support the charity School in a Bag for their social action project. We had just begun work on this when the first lockdown started, but we have now completed a sale of pencil pots and a 3-mile sponsored walk.

Thank you to the amazing children of years 1 & 2 who walked up and down on stony tracks and overgrown paths with wonderful spirit and humour and have raised, together with the sale from last year, over £1300, a wonderful achievement!

Thank you to parents and carers for your support and for helping to get the message out, and to all who sponsored us.

We hope to hold a special assembly (probably next term) with representatives of School in a Bag.

Key Stage 1 Multiskills

Children in year 1 & 2 had a brilliant afternoon of multiskills. Thank you to the staff from The Purbeck School for planning and running this session, and to our brilliant Bronze Ambassadors who assisted them so enthusiastically.

Douglas Strickland Award Evening

Year 2 represented St Mary’s in style at the Douglas Strickland Bursary 30th anniversary awards evening on Tuesday. They recited a choral poem about Christopher Columbus  which they have been learning as part of their topic about Explorers.

We attended the evening to receive a donation from the bursary, with which we have purchased some class sets of books to support the teaching of reading across the school.

A huge thank you must be said to the bursary as we have received many generous donations over the years which we have used to buy a variety of resources to support the teaching of the arts across the school.
