Y5 were VIP guests at the official opening of Swanage Youth Hostel after its £1.5 million refurbishment. They accompanied the mayor and CEOs of the Youth Hostel to cut the ribbon before being treated to a delicious lunch and some enormous ice-creams! After lunch they had a session learning about dinosaurs and fossil-hunting on the Jurassic Coast and even had the opportunity to go panning for fossils. An amazing day and thank you to everyone at Swanage Youth Hostel for inviting our pupils to be part of this event.
Congratulations to our year 4s, 5s and 6s who took part in the Dorset School Games. What a brilliant day!
Year 5 have been working with CAFOD to write and perform speeches that speak out on behalf of those who are less fortunate than us. They have spent time over the last few weeks collecting information and then organising this into a speech which they performed in front of their class. The winning 4 speaking pairs then performed again in front of year 5 and 6 and some invited guests including out town Mayor Mr Mike Bonfield. Many thanks to all our visitors on the afternoon, to Bea (our CAFOD link teacher), and of course to Year 5 themselves for all their hard work. You can find more pictures of this event on the Year 5 class page.
Year 6 have been using their persuasive writing skills to write letters to Mr White to persuade him to buy some Fairtrade match balls. When Bea had heard about this she kicked off the collection with a donation of a new Fairtrade football!
Year 3, 4 and 5 enjoyed a show by the Watoto Children’s Choir at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Congratulations to our year 5 and year 6 athletes on their excellent 3rd place at the Purbeck and Christchurch Indoor Athletics finals.
Too cold for birdwatching? Too windy for birdwatching? Too wet for birdwatching? No! Old-school hardcore birdwatching with years 3 & 5. Thanks again to Birds of Poole Harbour for organizing this super trip. See you next year!
As part of their topic work on World War II, year 5 recently visited The Tank Museum for some hands-on history.
St Mary’s first venture into the Dorset Hard Ball Cup: losing to Epiphany!
Eight Year 5 and 6 pupils travelled to Parley to represent the school in the Dorset Under-11 Hard Ball Pairs Competition.
They all played well, showcasing excellent sportsmanship and team spirit.
Unfortunately they were not victorious, but they should all be very proud of their performance.
Year 1 share books with their buddies in year 5 & 6 every week.
